We Write for the Human, Not the Robot
Back in the dark ages, SEO was a game of trickery and won with blackhat techniques geared towards pleasing Google’s bots rather than human readers. Some people are still oblivious that these older strategies are obselete and do much more damage than any good. Keyword stuffing, link spamming, content spinning, blog farms– all terrible practices that will waste your time and get your site penalised.
Although Google still uses bots to identify ranking signals from your pages, it’s far more important that your site is human-friendly and that your content is relevant, readable and informative. Once you have sufficient quality content, Google’s RankBrain algorithm will naturally favour your site over others and the users will flood and and even start sharing it on other sites and social media.
So stop caring about meta keywords and make your content something people actually want to read!
We Respect the 3 Minute Rule
RankBrain also measures users’ time spent on pages. The average time spent on a page in the top 10 Google results is 3 minutes and 10 seconds, according to a recent study by SearchMetrics.
3 minutes is a long time in internet terms. Whilst sufficient volumes of text are necessary to form the meat of the content, it should be formatted tidily into digestible sizes. Walls of unformatted text with no paragraph spacing will trigger high bounce rates and be detrimental to your organic rankings.
Breaking your text up with images and embedded videos will please your readers’ short attention spans and Google’s timer will keep ticking as they watch the videos as long as they’re on your page.
We Write Authoratitive Evergreen Content
In order for your content to be compelling enough to grip readers for over 3 minutes, it needs to be lengthy and comprehensive. BuzzSumo’s Content Trends 2018 report concludes that ‘authoratitive evergreen’ content is the most efficient at maintaining top Google organic search positions.
What it means by ‘authoritative’ is that the content must be written with expertise on the subject, by ‘evergreen’ it means that the topic should be something that isn’t temporary or only relevant for the moment.
2,000 Words. No More, no Less for SEO
Your content needs to be as close to 2,000 words (or 1,950 to be more precise) as possible.
Backlinko’s 2019 Ranking Factors study found that content length is one of the strongest ranking signals. The graph on the left demonstrates the importance of getting your word count as close to 2,000 as possible.
And don’t be tempted to pad out 1,000 quality words with an extra 1,000 filler words to hit the 2,000 word target; your readers will bounce and Google will interpret it as a negative signal.
If you want us to write SEO-optimised content for you, we only offer articles or blog posts that aim to be as close to 2,000 words as possible with high-quality content.
